A guide to Red Pitaya product naming
- Posted by Red Pitaya Team
Do you ever wonder how some companies think of product names? Apple is one example of modern product naming with its i-family, and Red Pitaya is another. We sometimes get into very interesting discussions with our customers regarding our product names, which might not be very intuitive to everyone. To clear up the potential confusion once and for all, we've prepared a guide to Red Pitaya product naming.
All Red Pitaya product names are structured in a very similar way, and all indicate the use of the product as well as some technical details, which helps you determine the right model for your use case. At this point, Red Pitaya has three product categories: STEMlab, SDRlab and SIGNALlab. STEMlab has two different variations: STEMlab 125-10 and STEMlab 125-14, while SDRlab 122-16 and SIGNALlab 250-12 are the only items in their categories. But what do these numbers really mean?
The first part of the name in capital letters indicates which industry or application the product is most commonly used for. This is of course not 100% accurate due to the wide use of Red Pitaya products, but it gives you the first hint about its potential. For example, STEMlab 125-14 was developed for simple applications but has become a best-seller for more advanced industrial applications, therefore keeping the original name and widening its purpose.
The “lab” part of the name indicates that Red Pitaya can replace a whole lab with its various applications and open-source nature, allowing users to develop their own applications and program Red Pitaya to fit their specific needs.
We finally come to the numbers. The first number in the name represents the sampling rate of the product and the second one the ADC resolution in bits. Simple, right? Now you can look at our products from a new perspective and this should give you a clear insight into their performance and possible uses.
